Warming up and cooling down are essential parts of any work out. It is at this moment where you are changing pace and you need the right music to help signal that change. For this reason, it is essential that you choose music that is slightly slower than your regular workout, but not too slow that it will relax you.
For most people, workout music that has a tempo below 100 beats per minute (BPM) will fit into this category. Songs range in length from about 3 to 5 minutes long, so plan on using at least 10 to 12 songs for a 45 minute workout. Pick music that will gradually increase your tempo until you reach your optimum speed and then gradually decrease your tempo at the end of the workout. This will ensure that you are warming up and cooling down properly.
Below you will find different music genres with a tempo that is 100 BPM or below. For your convenience, we have included links to the music on Amazon, iTunes, and Rhapsody.
Rhapsody provides both music subscriptions as well as individual mp3s for sale in WMA format. ITunes only provides MPEG-4 audio files for sale. However, Amazon is now offering mp3s that are compatible with both windows media player and iTunes. For more information about where to purchase music online, we provide it on our Music Downloads page or our Music Subscriptions page.
